Chapter 6

Babs and Ato huddled together on the terrace of the café that he had taken her to. They stared at the dark sky with no clouds. Babs wondered if she was living her last day. The people in the café were talking at once in panicky fear. Babs thought they had good cause to be agitated.

“What is happening, Ato?” Babs said in fear.

He held her close to his side and massaged her arm comfortingly.

“It is a warning,” Ato whispered. He didn’t want to be overheard.

“A warning for what?” Babs said in a hushed voice.

“An alert that something terrible will occur,” he replied.

“Dare I ask who has set the alarm?” Babs questioned in dread.

Ato didn’t answer, which only made Babs more afraid. She didn’t press him for an answer. In her heart she already knew it. Babs wasn’t superstitious, but neither was she gullible or naïve when it came to supernatural elements. She’d had plenty of exposure to paranormal activity as she was a friend and assistant to Maia and Tony. So she instinctively knew that this waterless storm was a mystical phenomenon. And she had a good idea who was causing it--- Analisa. Her theory was proven when she heard a familiar sound; weeping. Babs looked up at Ato.

“Analisa is upset,” Babs said.

“She is angry. She only cries to let you know that it is she. But the lightning and thunder is reflective of her fury,” Ato said.

“Why is she so incensed?” Babs whispered.

“She knows of the terrible wrong that is coming. She wants us to prevent it or she will,” Ato said in low tones.

“Or she will? Can she do that?” Babs was disturbed.

“Most definitely. And she will if we don’t,” Ato said.

“What is this wrong that must be prevented?” she asked.

“I don’t know,” Ato said. “But I’m going to find out.”

“I hope you do—very quickly,” Babs murmured.

She stared at the flashes of lightning crisscrossing the sky and said a silent prayer.

Ramon sat in his study with a glass of bourbon in his hand. He swirled the golden liquid about and smiled as he looked out huge window.

“The time draws near. The timing of this electrical storm is perfect for my plans,” Ramon said in satisfaction.

Hector Powell sat on the corner of the desk and swung his leg. He was Ramon’s colleague and confidant. He was very much invested in Ramon plans for Crescent Moon as he had his own political aspirations. Ramon’s plan for an insurgence on the island would be the beginning of a very successful and profitable career for himself.

“It will stir the pot better than any speech from you,” Hector smiled slyly.

“Too true, Hector. The earlier attacks served our purpose well, but this storm will escalate mild nervousness to a level of terror,” Ramon smiled evilly.

“And to think the random fires and ransacking’s were sending them nuts,” Hector chuckled.

“The islanders will be feverish with fear and will certainly revolt when Carlos does nothing to ease their terror,’ Ramon said. “He may as well tender his resignation and give his support to me as the next Prime Minister of Crescent Moon.
